Why Dancehall?

Why Dancehall?

Whatever the style, what matters most in dance is the dancer’s attitude and how they feel in the music and the moves. The energy of the dance, the emotions it brings out, the level of difficulty, the basic steps – all of this can match our expectations and natural abilities, or quite the opposite. So how does it work with the dance we do at Passa Passa like no one else in Lublin?

Why was Dancehall born?

Dancehall was born in tropical Jamaica as a response to the island’s difficult political situation. In the 1960s, government instability, gang wars, constant tension and aggression were huge problems. To lift the quality of life of Jamaicans and weave a little ease and happiness into dangerous everyday life, groups of dancers and musicians began to form. They partied in the streets and tried to infect passers-by and locals with their enthusiasm. The parties drew big crowds for safety reasons, as people felt safer in groups, but also because of the joy they found in each other’s company.

Who can dance Dancehall?

In its original spirit, anyone who turned up at the street parties in impoverished Kingston could dance – which means pretty much everyone: children, teenagers, adults and older people. We carry on this tradition at Passa Passa by running groups for different ages, teaching different styles and passing on the beautiful values that come with this dance.

How to learn Dancehall?

The easiest way is to understand the emotions this dance brings – here, attitude matters far more than specific steps. On the technical side, the style is defined by high energy throughout the whole body and fluid movements mixed with isolations. Dancehall can be danced in many different ways, which you will find on the Dancehall tile in the Offer section. We want our classes to be as varied as possible so that everyone finds something for themselves. That is why we invite everyone who wants to get to know Dhl to our Dancehall classes, all you wonderful women are welcome at Dancehall Queen Style, and fans of improvisation and mixing styles will feel at home in Dancehall Fusion!
